Highfield Academy’s bright start

THE Tinotenda Kadewere-sponsored Highfields Academy finally made its long awaited debut appearance at the Division 2 Zifa Cup, scoring an impressive 1-0 win over Acadia 1-0 at University of Zimbabwe yesterday.

An eleventh minute long range effort by Shaun Mupesa was enough to champion the team to an early lead, and subsequently score the much-needed win.

Girls Rights Movement launched

Shamwari Yemwanasikana (SYS), a community based non-governmental organisation that seeks to promote the rights and empowerment of the girl child has launched the “Girls Rights Movement” in Harare today.

The movement  seeks to amplify the voices of girls and fight for their independent rights to be recognised as a separate demographic group, not to be put under the priorities of women and children.

Zim football fraternity moans legend Daka

VETERAN football administrator and Highlanders president, Ndumiso “Yours Truly” Gumede, has described the death of the legendary Barry Daka as a sad chapter in Zimbabwean football.

Daka, a former Highlanders coach and a junior football development expert, died in Bulawayo Thursday morning at the age of 71.

Corona knocks out football summit

THE World Football Summit scheduled for South Africa has become the latest casualty of the ravaging coronavirus after organisers of the event scheduled for Durban next week were  forced to cancel the global forum.

In a statement issued earlier today WFS organisers said they would now work on new dates for the event pencilled in for March 17-18 had been shelved.
