Cattle, crop feud ends in tragedy

The deceased, Zenzo Ndlovu, is alleged to have driven Bernard Sibanda’s cattle into his fields as revenge after Sibanda failed to address a complaint that his cattle were feeding in Ndlovu’s fields.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson, Inspector Billie Dube, confirmed the incident yesterday and said it happened in Majindani Squatter Camp under Chief Deli last week.

“The deceased Zenzo Ndlovu went to the accused Bernard Sibanda’s homestead accusing him of letting his cattle graze in his fields.

“A misunderstanding arose, resulting in Ndlovu revenging by driving Sibanda’s herd of cattle into his fields,” he said.

Insp Dube said Ndlovu returned to his homestead leaving the cattle grazing in Sibanda’s fields.

“This did not go down well with the accused who teamed up with other four accomplices Elphius Ndlovu, Dension Ndlovu, Elkana Sibanda and Bigboy Mpofu and proceeded to Ndlovu’s homestead, where they dragged him out of his yard assaulted him with sticks and kicked him until he fell unconscious,” he said.

Insp Dube said a report of assault was made at Nyamandlovu police.

“Ndlovu was rushed to Nyamandlovu Hospital but was transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital for further treatment.

“However, on 3 February, a report was received that Ndlovu had died at hospital,” he said

Insp Dube urged the public to settle conflicts in a peaceful manner and desist from resorting to violence.
