CHRISTIAN Brothers College (CBC) picked up their first win in the annual “Best of the Week” Rugby Festival in South Africa after beating the hosts Krugersdorp High on Saturday.
The Babongile Ncube-captained Hornets won their encounter 38-15 after they had lost their opening game against Hoërskool Bastion 33-13.
Nelson Madida’s team went on the tour after competing in the Bulawayo Metropolitan Rugby Football Board (BMRFB) Under-20 League where they won all their matches. As part of their preparations, Hornets participated in last week’s Milton Easter Rugby Festival held at Hartsfield Rugby Grounds.
The other Zimbabwean teams participating at the SA festival are Prince Edward, Hellenic Academy, Hillcrest College and Heritage School. The festival is for schools in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Heritage edged Hoërskool Bastion 26-10 in their opening encounter while Hillcrest lost a close encounter against Benoni High School 16-15 in their first game. Prince Edward thumped Hoërskool Randburg 42-0 while Hellenic went on to lose 17-5 against Krugersdorp High. Heritage won 3-0 over Pinetown Boys High School.

In other matches, Hillcrest suffered a 54-10 defeat at the hands of Eye of the Tiger Rugby Academy and Hellenic also suffered another defeat, losing 35-3 against the Benoni High School. Prince Edward continued with their brilliant form to win 22-19 against Hoërskool Bastion.
Today, Hillcrest play against Randburg, Hellenic face Bastion, CBC clash with Benoni, PE’s opponents are Eye of the Tiger while Heritage collide with Krugersdorp High School in the main match of the festival.

After the completion of the fiesta in South Africa, some of the Zimbabwean teams are going to take part in the Prince Edward Festival later this month.
The championship will be part of the school’s celebration of 125 years of existence and will run from 24 to 29 April.
