CBC win U16 T20 tourney

CHRISTIAN Brothers College (CBC) were crowned champions of the 2024 CBC Under-16 T20 cricket tournament held at the school, over the weekend.

CBC edged Milton High by one wicket to secure the title on their home ground. Twelve schools competed at the tournament.

In the final, Milton won the toss and elected to bat, but were restricted to 118/7 in 20 overs before CBC successfully chased the target with one ball to spare, finishing on 122/9.

Marshal Hamandishe was the pick of the CBC bowlers, picking up three wickets to finish with impressive figures of 3/4 in 3,4 overs while Pilate Ndlovu, Brandon Chirwa and Thomas Amders took one wicket apiece.

Tadiwa Mutasa top scored for Milton with 43 runs off 35 deliveries while Fairchild Manyathela finished on 27 runs off as many deliveries. The two were the only ones to cross double figures for the Milton Elephants.

However, it was CBC’s lower order that saw them finish with an unbeaten 28 off 24 deliveries while Wezi Phiri was unbeaten on 20 from 22 balls. The duo bat at number 10 and 11 repetitively. Mordecai Sibanda chipped in with 16 runs from 18 deliveries.

Tiago finished with figures of 3/29 in his four-over spell while Chidamoyo took 3/23 also in four overs and Tinashe Mapfumo took one wicket.

The other 10 teams that competed in the tournament were Eaglesvale, Goldridge, Falcon, Riverdale, Petra, Heritage School, Kyle College and Midlands Christian College (MCC).

CBC’s Lwandile Moyo was named batter of the tournament for his 222 runs while Nathan Mtuke was the bowler of the tournament after taking 12 wickets. Mtuke was also named player of the tournament while Goldridge from Falcon College took home the CBC Edmund Rice Ethos Shield for Sportsmanship.

St George’s College were the Bowl winners and MCC took the plate final. —@brandon_malvin
