CBZ Bank Holdings subsidiary Redsphere Finance, donated football jerseys and tracksuits to the Zimbabwe Prisons Correctional Service women team, Correctional Queens FC, at Harare Central Prisons head office on Friday.
The Correctional Queens are in the women’s Premiership.
The equipment was handed over by Redsphere Finance managing director, Desmond “Dezola” Ali.
Correctional Service Deputy Commissioner General, Social Ndanga, was present at the event and he hailed Ali for taking heed of the call to support the girl child.
“On behalf of the ZPCS Commissioner General and, indeed, on my own behalf, allow me to extend my heartfelt appreciation to CBZ Red Sphere for the compassionate gesture which has led us to this special day.
“We remain indebted for such a priceless donation which will certainly go a long way in boosting morale to the recipients as well as enhance their performance.
“As ZPCS, we remain thankful and our doors remain open to all willing stakeholders who are keen to join hands with us in ensuring that the Queens’ necessities are catered for,” said Ndanga.
He also showered praise on the team’s chairperson, Mavis Gumbo, who took over the reins three years ago, for transforming this project.
“May I hasten to say that we are honoured to see that this company has chosen to promote the girl child in sport and this initiative being a continuous fulfilment of a pledge that Ali made to our late former Correctional Queens club president and FC Prisons Stars, Tendai Zulu.
“It is also worth noting that Gumbo has managed to maintain the legacy, managing to transform this team into one of the best administered teams in the league that earned itself the name Team of Choice,” he said.
