Topping the bill was Malawian gospel musician Ethel Kamwendo-Banda, who proved why she is one of her country’s top artistes when she delivered a flawless act.
People loved her act and she obliged them when she belted out some of the songs that made her famous like “Mandikondera”, “Ndinunoka” and “Chete” among others featured on four of her albums that include “Mandikondera” released in 2006 as well as her latest, “Alemekezeke”.
She proved why she is called “Malawi’s Queen of Gospel” as people could not have enough of her requested to come back on stage and perform at intervals at the concert that was preceded by church services.
Also in fine form were Mahendere Brothers who came to the concert with their “batteries” charged.
The “Africa Yorumbidza” hit-makers, led by Amos Mahendere, dished out their crowd favourites like “Psalm 23” and “Hupenyu Hwepanyika” among others and as has become the norm, they left the crowd yearning for more with their well-choreographed stage act spiced up with immaculate dressing.
Joyce Simeti, who had a busy weekend starting with a performance at Timothy Ngwenya’s manager, Tirivanhu Ndoro and his wife, Sharon’s colourful wedding on Saturday, showed what she is made of while Bethan Pasinawako, Olinda Marowa, Kudzi Nyakudya and CCAP Voice of Mbare also entertained the worshipers.
The concert was aimed at raising funds to be used for the CCAP Centennial Celebrations to be held next year.
Alfred Mpasa, the co-ordinator of the celebrations, said they were happy that people came in their numbers to support the event.
“We are glad that God was on our side and with faith we managed to raise some of the money required for the celebrations next year.
“Ethel Kamwendo-Banda will be back for another concert we will be holding in Bulawayo next month,” Mpasa said.
