THE Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) today signed the Corporate Integrity Pledge, reaffirming its commitment to good governance, transparency and ethical service delivery in the fight against corruption.

The pledge, signed by CCZ vice board chairperson Beauty Chigora and Chief Executive Officer Mrs Rosemary Mpofu places the consumer watchdog at the forefront of promoting accountability and integrity in both consumer protection and business engagement.

In its declaration, CCZ underscored the detrimental impact of corruption on the nation’s socio-economic development.
“We believe that corruption is one of the biggest impediments to economic growth and prosperity in Zimbabwe and has been eroding the moral fibre of this society.

“As Patriotic Zimbabwean citizens and as Consumer Council of Zimbabwe, we genuinely believe in the growth, prosperity and inclusive development of our country and in promoting good governance buttressed by transparency, accountability, integrity and the rule of law, we acknowledge my responsibility to lead by example in the fight against corruption and to ethically render our services with integrity,” the Council said.

Through the pledge, the CCZ leadership committed to upholding the highest professional standards in discharging their duties.

“We shall discharge our duties with the highest degree of honesty, competence, excellence, transparency, independence and professionalism in educating consumers and business and to conduct fair, impartial and accessible dispute resolution for consumers and business.

“We shall abide whole heartedly with provisions of the CCZ Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards expected in executing my duties,” read the statement.

The Council further pledged to place the public interest above personal gain and to be agents of positive change.

“We shall advocate the true essence of service… ensuring that all our actions are guided accordingly with the interests of the public and not our own personal interests. We shall continue to improve professionally and morally and shall always strive to be an agent of change for the better.

“We shall create a healthy working relationship with every person by inculcating in their minds that we are enablers and not deterrents in the development of our country.

“We shall be vigilant but not distrustful and we shall uphold and practice courtesy, modesty and humility at all times; and ultimately, we shall abide by the Constitution of Zimbabwe and comply with all laws of Zimbabwe.”

The Corporate Integrity Pledge is regarded as a significant step in strengthening Zimbabwe’s anti-corruption framework, aligning with the Second Republic’s thrust of building a transparent and accountable governance system.
