Cde Bernard Chigaduro laid to rest

Liberation war hero Cde Bernard Chigaduro, who died in Harare on Wednesday, was yesterday buried at the Harare Provincial Heroes’ Acre.

He was 55.

At the burial attended by hundreds, Mr Jabulani Ndebele, a director in Harare Provincial Affairs Minister Miriam Chikukwa’s Office, said Zimbabweans should continue to defend the legacy that heroes like Cde Chigaduro fought for.

Mr Ndebele also advocated support for Government’s economic empowerment initiatives.

“We must remain united in defence of what they sacrificed their lives for; we must make sure what they fought for is achieved,” he said.

“In 1980, we achieved political Independence and today we are fighting for economic independence, which all Zimbabweans should support so that this economic war is achieved.”

Cde Chigaduro was born in Buhera in 1959.

He left for Mozambique to join the liberation struggle in 1976 and trained in Romania.

After Independence, he was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army, retiring in 2007.

He is survived by his wife and three children.
