ZANU PF Mashonaland East chairman Cde Daniel Garwe has enjoined party members and supporters from Mashonaland East Province to defend resolution number 1 that President Mnangagwa’s second term of office be extended by two more years from 2028 to 2030.
He made the call while addressing thousands of Zanu PF supporters during interdistrict meetings held in Marondera and Goromonzi on Wednesday this week.
Cde Garwe said Zanu PF was a people’s party, and the same people have decided to allow President Mnangagwa to stay in office beyond 2028.
He added that the resolution, together with many others, is now being implemented by the party and also by the Government.
For resolution number one to be implemented, Cde Garwe said there are procedures that need to be followed, notably the amendment of certain chapters in the constitution.
He said Parliament will conduct public hearings on the Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3, and appealed to the Mashonaland East people to attend these consultations in large numbers.
“From March 30 to April 2, 2026, Parliament will be conducting public hearings on this issue and I want to appeal to you all, come in your numbers, just like what you did today and attend the hearings,” he said.
“Come and make your voices heard. We are the ruling party. We are ZANU PF, so it is critical for you to be present.
“You are the people who said President Mnangagwa should be in office until 2030, you must therefore defend your decision.
“Let us defend that decision without any fear or favour. Defending that decision means we are defending development. We are defending the astuteness of President Mnangagwa’s leadership.”
Cde Garwe said those who will come after President Mnangagwa will have to serve for 14 years, if they are serving for two terms.
“So this is good for those who will be coming into office after President Mnangagwa. Also, the advantage is that more time will be diverted to developing the nation, not on electioneering,” he said.
“From today going forward, we have to detach ourselves from the spirit of elections and focus on development. President Mnangagwa needs our support. It is our duty now to defend our resolution.”
Youth chairman for Mashonaland East, Cde Isaac Tasikani, added his voice, saying that the youths are fully behind the amendment.
“Being led by Cde Tinoda Machakaire and his deputy Cde John Paradza, as the youth, we are in full support of resolution number 1, and we want our President to be in office until 2030, leading us. Therefore, as the youth, we do hereby support the amendment until it passes,” he said.
“We will never stop supporting this call. Youths are benefiting through empowerment programmes designed for them and we will continue to benefit since we are the future leaders of this beautiful nation, Zimbabwe.”
Women’s League provincial chair Senator Apolonia Munzverengwi also added her voice in support of the resolution and amendment.
“As the Women’s League, led by our leader Cde Mabel Chinomona, we are fully supporting resolution number 1, as well as the amendment bill that will give our President a term extension in office,” she said.
“We will work tirelessly to ensure this process sails through. We will give our support and we will be there all the way until we win.”
ZANU PF supporter Kelvin Mugara from Goromonzi said his wish is for the process to be expedited so that President Mnangagwa can continue developing Zimbabwe.
“Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 “torida and rakanaka, riri bhoo”. We are supporting it wholeheartedly,” he said.
“We have seen a lot of development, empowerment projects and livelihoods being transformed. So we are saying President Mnangagwa should remain in office beyond 2028.”
Another resident from Marondera Ms Christina Takawira, said women are benefiting through empowerment projects thanks to the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa.
“We have seen the Second Republic prioritising women, whereby a lot of empowerment projects were done. We are empowered and we continue to be empowered,” she said.
“The President is doing great work across the country, therefore we are willing to give him more time in office.”
