Cde Mudhumeni Chivende dies

Zanu-PF Central Committee member and independent Zimbabwe’s first Mashonaland West provincial governor Cde Mudhumeni “Nyikadzino” Chivende has died. Cde Chivende (75) died at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital yesterday morning. Zanu-PF secretary for administration Dr Ignatius Chombo confirmed the death.

“We are all saddened by the loss of Cde Mudhumeni Chivende who had a solid history and was a strong member of the party, Zanu-PF,” said Dr Chombo.

Zanu-PF Mashonaland West’s secretary for administration, Cde Simbarashe Ziyambi, said: “We are recommending national hero status for Cde Chivende who was a liberation stalwart.”

Cde Chivende assisted the Seven Heroes who fired the first shots of the liberation war in the famous Chinhoyi Battle of 1966.
He was subsequently arrested and detained at Wha Wha.
He had been unwell after being diagnosed with prostate cancer and undergoing surgery.
