HARARE – Special Advisor on National Disabilities, Cde Rose Mpofu, has called for unity and collaboration among Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) while commending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s leadership in advancing disability rights.
Her remarks came during a high-level engagement at State House, where PWDs met with the President to discuss policy implementation and strategies for enhancing inclusivity.
Cde Mpofu expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa for prioritising the needs of PWDs and creating platforms for their voices to be heard.
“We are grateful for President Mnangagwa’s leadership as the Government works on providing for the needs and requirements of PWDs. The National Disability Policy is key to promoting the rights of PWDs, and we are seeing progress, such as the appointment of ZEC Commissioner Shava, which amplifies the Government’s commitment to leaving no one and no place behind,” she said.
The Special Advisor highlighted the Government’s efforts to implement the National Disability Policy, launched in June 2021, which aims to address marginalisation and discrimination while fostering inclusivity. She also noted the establishment of the Technical National Coordination Committee in 2022, which oversees the policy’s implementation, as a significant step forward.
Cde Mpofu emphasised the importance of unity among PWDs, urging them to work together to achieve common goals. “Let us work together and leave no room for divisions. Unity is critical if we are to fully realise our rights and contribute meaningfully to national development,” she said.

She announced plans to invite President Mnangagwa to officiate at an upcoming interaction with PWDs from all provinces, further strengthening the government’s commitment to inclusivity. “Soon, we will ask the President to officiate at an interaction with all PWDs from all provinces. This will provide an opportunity to address challenges and explore ways to enhance the welfare of PWDs across the country,” Cde Mpofu added.
The State House engagement underscored the government’s dedication to ensuring that disability rights remain at the forefront of national development strategies. It also highlighted Zimbabwe’s progress in advancing disability inclusion, including the development of a SADC-wide Protocol on Disability Rights and the alignment of national budgetary processes with disability policies.
Cde Mpofu’s address resonated with the broader theme of inclusivity and empowerment, reflecting the government’s determination to create a society where the rights and contributions of PWDs are recognised and valued. As Zimbabwe continues to implement the National Disability Policy, such engagements are critical to fostering collaboration and driving meaningful change for PWDs across the country.
