SHAMVA North is set to record improved access to primary healthcare following the construction of a new clinic in Mupfurudzi, a project being undertaken through Constituency Development Funds (CDF) and additional support from the area’s legislator.
Shamva North legislator Isaac Chinodakufa on Sunday visited the construction site of the clinic which is still under construction and is expected to serve residents of Wards 7 and 8.
Hon Chinodakufa said the project was aimed at addressing long-standing healthcare challenges faced by communities that have been travelling long distances to access medical services.
“This clinic is not just bricks and mortar; it is a lifeline for our mothers, children and the elderly who have had to walk long distances to seek medical attention,” he said.
“We are building a healthier Shamva North together with the people and ensuring that essential services are brought closer to the communities.”
The legislator said the construction works were being supported through CDF resources, while additional logistical and construction-related expenses, including the transportation of building materials and labour costs, had also been mobilised to ensure steady progress at the site.
The clinic is expected to ease pressure on existing health institutions in the district and improve access to maternal and child healthcare, routine medical services and emergency treatment for surrounding communities.
Hon Chinodakufa said the project complemented Government’s broader rural development agenda and efforts to expand social infrastructure in underserved areas.
Beyond improving healthcare delivery, the facility is also expected to create employment opportunities for health personnel and support staff, while promoting local skills development during the construction phase.
Residents who spoke during the tour welcomed the development, saying it would significantly reduce transport costs and travelling time associated with accessing treatment.
A Ward 7 resident, Mrs Mushore, said the clinic would transform lives in the area.
“We used to travel more than 15 kilometres to reach the nearest clinic. Once this facility is completed, healthcare will be much closer to us and our families,” she said.
Another villager, Mr Mupandawana, praised the pace of development in the constituency.
“We are happy to see this project taking shape because it will directly benefit our community,” he said.
Hon Chinodakufa said the clinic was among several development initiatives being pursued in Shamva North as communities continue to push for improved public infrastructure and social services.
The construction of the Mupfurudzi clinic comes at a time when Government and local leadership are prioritising rural health delivery and infrastructure expansion to improve livelihoods and promote equitable access to essential services.
