MORE than 120 greenhorn and professional golfers will descend on Hillside Sports Club in Mutare when the 2023 edition of the Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces (CDF) Manicaland Chapter Golf Tournament tees off tomorrow (Saturday).
The purpose of this tournament is to raise funds for various charity organisations and less-privileged members of the community around the country.
The event returns on the calendar this year after taking a sabbatical in 2019 owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Being held under the auspices of the CDF Executive Interaction Initiative, whose chairman is Commander 3 Infantry Brigade, George Chitsva, the tournament brings together senior army officers, the business community and members of the public, in a gentle and relaxed golfing atmosphere.
Chairman of the golf tournament organising committee, Erazmous Ndongwe said preparations are at an advanced stage, hence the expectation of more than 120 golfers on the course.
“We are cordially inviting all golfers throughout the country to participate in this worthy cause. So far, preparations for the event are progressing on well, hence the expectation of more than 120 golfers on the course during the tournament.
“Non-golfers and other well-wishers are also invited to come and support by making donations in cash or kind. It will also be an opportunity to meet and interact with senior army officers as well as captains of industry with the ultimate aim of cultivating co-operative relationships and being mindful of the needy,” he said.
The organisers of the event have put ‘very good prizes’ table for the golfers.
Ndongwe said: “Due to its popularity, many sponsors have confirmed participation at this year’s golf tournament. We have also gone out of our way to ensure that there are good prizes for the golfers to motivate them while playing.”
Seasoned golfers across the country and their Mutare counterparts such as Martin Nyaundi, Joseph ‘JJ’ Makoni and Webster Chirume among many others have confirmed their participation at this premier event.
There will also be upcoming golfers that include Erazmous Ndongwe, Blessing Mangwiro, Lovemore Chitima, Farai Chimwaza, Louis Muronzi, among others, who have also confirmed their participation.
The format of the competition is individual stableford and the competition fee is US$25 per individual.
Ndongwe said: ‘It also promises to be an exciting day out even for a family as we will have entertainment activities on the sidelines.
As usual, Hillside Golf Club is a place where the ambience itself is inviting, let alone the presence of mouth-watering dishes and drinks served at the venue for the convenience of attendees.”
