Cech to stay at Chelsea

LONDON. — Jose Mourinho says it will take “huge money” to prise goalkeeper Petr Cech away from Chelsea this summer. Thibaut Courtois has taken over from Cech as Chelsea’s No 1 this season, although the 32-year-old was in goal when they won the Capital One Cup final against Spurs on Sunday.

Mourinho has always rated Cech as one of the best keepers in world football and his stance has not changed.

He will not stand in his way if Cech does wish to leave, but Chelsea will be looking for a big transfer fee for the Czech Republic international, who is closing on 500 appearances for the club.

“He will make his decision,” Mourinho said.

“He’s very mature to make what he feels is the best decision for him and the best decision for his future.

“I will just wait. I would like him very much to stay. I don’t waste my time trying to persuade him, because I know nobody can persuade him.

“If he tells me he wants to leave, I will tell him my opinion and my opinion is one of the three best goalkeepers in the world. Huge money.”

The goalkeeping position at Stamford Bridge had been the subject of a number of press reports on Tuesday, with Spurs back-up Brad Friedel widely linked with a move across London.

And Celtic keeper Craig Gordon was said to be part of a Chelsea short-list by The Scotsman, with QPR’s Rob Green, John Ruddy of Norwich City and Aston Villa’s Shay Given also linked. — Sky Sports.
