Kit manufacturers Adidas sent a new set of keeper Cech’s custom-made gloves to the Chelsea training ground in Surrey, rather than Arsenal’s Hertfordshire HQ this week — despite the keeper moving between the two clubs last summer.
Cech (33) spent 11 years at Stamford Bridge, won the championship four times and is hoping to become the first player since Eric Cantona to win successive English Premier League titles with different clubs.
Czech Republic international Cech remains a Chelsea legend but his £10m move last summer will go down as one of the most remarkable transfers of the English Premier League era.
A Chelsea source said: “The glove manufacturers obviously still think of Petr Cech as part of the furniture at Chelsea. It’s strange to think of him at another club.”
The Blues sportingly forwarded the gloves on to Cech ahead of Sunday’s showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates.
It will be the third time Cech has faced former club Chelsea, having beaten them in the Community Shield in August and then losing in the September league fixture at the Bridge.
Then-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho did not want Cech to leave despite having the much-younger Belgium first-choice keeper Thibaut Courtois as his No. 1, and the move may yet come back to haunt the Blues. — The Mirrorr.
