FOLLOWING the successful hosting of the Jam Session in Harare last month, Bulawayo music fans will tomorrow have a taste of what happened in the capital. The inaugural Bulawayo musical event meant to promote up-and-coming artistes as well as those with fading careers, will be held at Cecil Hotel tomorrow with Willis Wataffi, Sandra Ndebele, Jeys Marabini, Khuliyo, Mzoe 7, Leeknotic, Thabbz, Hwabaraty, Guluva 7, Lady T and Donna N leading the pack.
Khuliyo, one of the organisers of the event said: “We went to Harare last month and learnt a lot during the Jam Session. Our music needs a boost and this is an opportunity for local fans to be exposed to our work. I’m confident that the Jam Session will boost our careers.”
He said the show which kicks off at 6PM would be a free event. “It’s an open secret that Bulawayo audiences aren’t receptive to local acts so we thought by making it a free show, they’d come in their numbers.
“We also want fellow artistes to come and appreciate what we’re doing,” said Khuliyo. Artistes who have not been included on the first line-up are being invited to register for the second edition of the Bulawayo jam session tomorrow during the inaugural event.
He said their plan was, like their Harare counterparts, to make the Jam Session a monthly event. “Ideally we want the Jam Session to be held every second Wednesday of the month.”
Next month, organisers plan to reciprocate by hosting Harare artistes in the city. In Harare, Bulawayo artistes had a warm reception as music lovers there seemed to enjoy their music, judging by the crowd’s response when they performed at the Jam Session which had been dubbed “Bulawayo meets Harare”.- @bonganinkunzi
