adminGeri Halliwell led stars talking about the late politician on the social networking site but after posting a message praising Lady Thatcher she swiftly deleted it and apologised to her followers.
The Spice Girl appeared to anger fans by writing: “Thinking of our 1st Lady of girl power, Margaret Thatcher, a grocer’s daughter who taught me anything is possible . . . x” (sic).
Geri quickly deleted the tweet writing simply: “I’m sorry if I offended u. X”
The singer has praised Lady Thatcher in the past and in the run-up to the 1997 election she said: “I saw a lot of what Mrs Thatcher did. She was definitely the original Spice Girl rising from the greengrocer’s daughter to prime minister.”
Lady Thatcher passed away at The Ritz Hotel in London on Monday after suffering a stroke at 87.
One disguntled Twitter user wrote: “So Geri Halliwell tweeted about the ‘first Lady of girl power’ and then deleted it after getting some stick? Girl power indeed. #thatcher.”
Geri’s decision to delete her post about the first and only female political leader may not sit well with her fans but she wasn’t the only one to pay tribute to the former PM before deleting the post.
Glamour model Imogen Thomas wrote: “RIP Margaret Thatcher x,” but removed the tweet and complained the criticism she received was too much for her to take.
The new mother wrote: “Too much backlash for a Monday! This tired head can’t deal with it today.”
Other stars waded into the debate with Harry Styles, who at 19 was born four years after Lady Thatcher resigned as prime minister, posted: “RIP Baroness Thatcher .x”
Reality star Alex Reid, who found fame during his brief marriage to Katie Price, decided to share his views and wrote: “Sad day, remember how proud I was being British as a kid, rip the Iron Lady!” — Daily Mail.
