CELEBRITIES have welcomed the move by a local company to help them undergo first aid training.

The initiative is courtesy of Discovery Ambulance Services. Over 20 celebrities attended the training and they include Miss Universe Zimbabwe Sakhile Dube and singer and actress Faith Candy. Sakhile, who is in the first class of 20, said the initiative was a noble idea.

“This is a good initiative and we welcome it.”

Faith Candy, said:

“The training is amazing and I have learnt a lot and I encourage other people to go through the training.

“People are dying at accident scenes due to lack of knowledge on how to save lives.”

Discovery Ambulance chief executive and founder, David Munowenyu, said the move is meant to equip everyone with first aid skills.

“The grand plan is to make sure everyone in the country gets first aid training,” said Munowenyu.

“We have established the Discovery Emergency Training Academy which is much more than just a facility, it is the beating heart of our future vision.

“We are cultivating the next generation of emergency care experts.

“We train ambulance technicians, mine rescuers, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), emergency dispatchers, paramedics, among others.

“Our training programmes don’t just meet international standards, they set them.

“This is why we have invited celebrities so that they can inspire and influence everyone to take a course with us.

“We are using state-of-the-art simulators and hands-on training techniques to ensure that we produce the best graduates in the country.”

With emergency care constantly evolving, Munowenyu said his academy was offering advanced certification programmes and refresher courses.

“At Discovery, we are investing in people because we know that every life matters and every second counts, and the quality of training can make the difference between life and death.

“We want everyone to be able to be a first responder.”
