FOUR groups have so far registered their participation at this year’s Chibuku Road To Fame national finals set for next month.
The Outlaws Band (Harare), The Fugees (Mat South), The Cousins (Midlands) and Shanty Town (Mash Central), will be battling for the US$15 000 grand prize and a recording contract.
The four were winners at preliminary provincial finals held last month and over the weekend. They all received US$2 500 as cash prizes for their efforts.
“We are excited that this year’s competition has already gathered momentum across the country and the level of competition has also risen to another level,” said Irimayi Muzorewa, Delta Corporation, marketing director.
“This shows that our efforts of nurturing fresh talent and supporting art has gone a long with everyone associating with the Chibuku brand.
“Through close collaborations with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), we are bracing for the national finals where we will celebrate the bands in style.
“Stay tuned for an unforgettable season of music, talent and inspiration.”
This year’s competition is being held under the theme “Bvirarira, Tshay’iNgoma,” runs from September 28 to November 9.
This weekend, the talent search will be in Mashonaland East, at The Place Bar in Chivhu, and KoNjabulo Elangeni Beerhall in Bulawayo.
On October 19 the competition will host provincial finals in Manicaland and Matebeleland North.
The final stop for the provincial finals will be at Hustler’s Bar in Murombedzi (Mashonaland West) and Chihambakwe Beer Hall in Triangle for Masvingo province.
The grand stage has been scheduled for November 9 in Harare at a venue yet to be announced.
