In a move that will see Zimbabwe, matching with some Hollywood standards when it comes to celebrity lifestyle, a local clothes retailer is set to host celebrity grooming lessons starting off next week.

Dubbed, ‘Celebrity Make-Over’, the workshop will see musicians, radio DJs and businessmen benefitting when it comes to fashion and style.

Jan Jam owner Cynthia Bizure Sithole said the celebrity grooming will focus only on men artistes and was inspired by the ZIMAs held recently.

“Fashion, styling and music are somehow inseparable. After the recent ZIMA, there was an outcry on how some celebrities dressed and carried themselves off. I have been working with some artistes on how they dress and thought this is the perfect moment to spread the concept,” she said.

She said the lessons will benefit the artistes on how to dress properly and for the occasion.

“I dressed most celebrities from musicians, radio personalities to diplomats. The lessons which will include grooming and deportment will help artistes from having fashion disasters and having bad attitude towards fans,” she said.

Sithole said has worked with a number of artistes who include Sabastian Magacha, Nox, Trevor Dongo and Soujah Love.

“I received calls from people saying I should include Tocky Vibes on my list which is still a work in progress. I am yet to conduct his manager. I don’t just dress people but I sit and discuss with them understanding their persona before choosing the right attire for them,” she said.

She said arts sector needs artiste to have an identity through dressing.

“The way you dress carries certain messages to those who meet you. Thus, a company that wants to maintain a professional image or certain status in the marketplace should make a dress code a priority. Appropriate dress, along with basic etiquette, is one of the most common associations made with professionalism. We form first impressions and overall judgments about people by the way they dress,” she said.

She highlighted how some musicians in particular are moving from jeans to suits which is good, depending on the crowd.Interested artistes are to submit their application via forms available at the shop.

“We will have time schedule with each artiste getting their own individual slot and end have an award ceremony at the end of the year with votes on Who Wore It Best. Winners walking away with fashion contracts which will see them get dressed courtesy of Jan Jam. I have several sponsors who are assisting me and this is a first in Zimbabwe and this will promote the industry further,” she said.

She said managers and promoters are shortchanging artistes by not offering comprehensive brand packages that include wardrobe management.

“I think it is all about grooming. If you well mannered no promoter would want to dump you or what. That is what is lacking in Zimbabwe, promoters are there for shows but they are also forgetting that the artistes need their expertise from dressing to managing,” she said.
