Did you know that mothers can recognise their children by smell while children can recognise each other by picking up the scent of milk from far away?
According to Coco Channel, “a woman who doesn’t wear perfume has no future”.
Over the years some international celebrities have signed contracts with big perfume brands to associate their name with a signature scent, as a self-promotion campaign.
The case is somehow different in Zimbabwe as few famous people focus much on their career rather than endorsement deals. Is it a case of ignorance to market themselves or what?
Why do people wear such expensive perfumes?
Saturday Lifestyle sneaked in some of their closets and had a pleasant revelation of how much people value a scent and the amount they are prepared to pay just to smell good.
Gospel diva Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave said the smell of a perfume makes people feel like desired beings, connect people with memories, help them to escape while showing individuality in a phenomenal way.
“Wearing a perfume is a boost of positivity in our everyday life increases vitality, improves our drive to accomplish, and increases resistance to failure,” she explained.
The musician said her favourite perfume is Fantasy by Britney Spears.
“It is very sweet and I am cool with it. I hope in the near future I will have my range,” she said.
Bruce Chiyangwa, son of philanthropist and businessman Phillip Chiyangwa, said what we least expected.
“Honestly, I have got so many perfumes and deodorants on my dressing table. I just buy whatever I like and come across with. I am not much of a perfume person,” noted Bruce.
He said he has over 17 types of perfumes. “I just buy so that people will say I have it, being a trendsetter you know. I have got 212 Boss, Usher, Dunhill Fahrenheit, Paul Smith and Lacoste,” he said.
Adiona Maboreke, wife to Munya Chidzonga, said when it comes to perfume, she goes for the ones that make a statement about one’s individuality and taste.
“I use Provocative Woman by Elizabeth Arden. I like it because it makes a statement on its own without me saying a word,” she said.
Perfume is very important in woman’s life because women have a sense of warmth. Smelling good can be an added bonus on top of your beauty,” she explained.
For some like multi-award winner gospel artiste Mudiwa Mtandwa one’s defined by what he wears and the fragrance he uses.
“I wear One Million perfumes and I love them because they give me confidence. It’s not like you draw attention wherever you go while wearing it but the command that it gives you as a gentleman. That is the element I want in it,” he said.
The “Chaputika Zvine Staira” singer, who is endorsed by Oceane Collection, said he was in the processing of coming up with his own range of perfumes.
“Through Oceane Collection we are in a deal where they are set to create my range of perfumes with my name called Mudiwa Hood. I, however, cannot give the timeframe because I am still working on it,” he said.
