THE power of a father in a child’s life is HUGE.

Being a father is a tough but incredibly fulfilling job.

On Sunday, the world will celebrate Father’s Day.

“My favourite memory was the first time that I was told I am a father and I had to slaughter a goat, it’s a tradition that as fathers we should learn to share with our children,” said Agga Nyabinde, who has two children – a boy and a girl.

“My advice to new fathers out there is we should spend a lot of time with our children.

“Based on my experience with my father, I started learning about music.

“The issue of balancing a career and fatherhood is a very difficult one in this time and age because sometimes you have to work overtime to be able to put food on the table and we are robbing our children of a lot of time with us.

“But, as fathers, it’s critical that whenever we find time to spend with our children let’s show them some love.”

Renowned sculptor, Dominic Benhura, said:

“I do not have a specific favourite memory tradition. I recall a little bit of everything about life. A mixed bag I would say.

“Spend most of your time either with family or at work. Start saving for your kids’ education and permanent accommodation. I work from home, so I am always around my kids.

“When they excel in whatever they do, which has been the case, I am inspired to work hard to keep them going with their studies,” he said.

Music producer and veteran guitarist, Clive Mono Mukundu, says being not present in your child’s life increases crime rate.

“This year, I will spend time with them at Dereck Mpofu’s Mutupo Festival, which will be held at Alliance Francaise.

“My children are now adults but the most vivid memory I have of them is that from kindergarten to secondary school, I dropped and picked them up every day, except when I was on tour outside Zimbabwe, which allowed me plenty of time to talk to them.

“Be a father who is present in his children’s lives. Fatherlessness is a significant contributor to crime these days. My son is now a very accomplished guitarist and I taught him. So I am proud to say that I spent a lot of time with my kids.”

Enzo Ishall has two boys.

“Going out and spending time, bonding with my sons, being a father is a learning experience filled with highs and lows so, embracing the moments and cherishing the memories, is what is important for me.

“My advice to new fathers is that you should always be present.”

Romeo Gasi said his career does not affect his responsibilities as a father.

“My kids love to be around me so much, in fact they are my best friends, they love playing games with me, teaching me kids games and also the youngest is so jealous of anyone who comes around me, especially her mum.

“I would like to encourage every father to love his family, create happiness in your family, give them time and you will never regret being at home.”
