Cellphone thief arrested

A 30-year-old man who robbed a high school pupil of a cellphone at a bushy area at 9th Street and Duncan Road in Makokoba has been arrested and is set to appear in court to answer the charge.

The incident according to police occurred on Monday at around 4PM.

In a statement police said Tavonga Mbawura attacked the pupil who was on her way home from school before robbing her of her phone which was concealed in her blazer.

“The suspect was apprehended by a member of the community following a cry for help by the victim. The arrest led to the recovery of the stolen cellphone,” said Bulawayo Provincial spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube.

He warned members of the public to avoid using secluded and bushy areas.

“Members of the public are warned on using bushy and secluded pathways as these are notorious grounds for criminals. We also would like to applaud members of the public for their continued support in the fight against crime,” said Insp Ncube.
