AS financial constraints continue to take a toll on Central Soccer League clubs, three matches failed to take place in the region as Tripple B Academy, Kwekwe Pirates, Jessie Mine and Gwanda Ramblers are still struggling to pay their affiliation fees. The match between Jessie Mine and Kwekwe Pirates was thrown away altogether while the Hardbody-Tripple B Academy encounter was handed to Hardbody as a walkover on a 3-0 scoreline and so was the Gwanda Ramblers-Vumbachikwe encounter which was awarded to the latter on the same scoreline.
League chairman Patrick Hill confirmed the developments and said the four teams had been given ample time to pay affiliation fees and they had all defaulted on their payment plans.
Central Soccer League clubs are required to pay $3 200 in affiliation fees while newcomers pay $4 100.
Action continued in the league which saw log leaders Chapungu maintaining their eight-point advantage at the summit of the log standings after gaining a hard fought 1-0 victory over Hwahwa in a Gweru derby.
An own goal by one of the Hwahwa players in the 17th minute was all “Waru Waru” needed to collect maximum points.
The airmen despite having the most lethal frontline in the league at the moment with 44 goals paraded three of their new acquisitions in the form of ex-Motor Action striker, Simbarashe Zimora, Kelvin “Dhorinyo” Munyonga and Kudakwashe Sibanda who is coming from Premiership newboys
Tripple B.
The result means Chapungu go into the midseason break have collected 39 points, eight ahead of second placed Chrome Stars who bounced back from a 0-4 mauling by Town United to hammer a hapless NM Academy 3-0 at home.
Elsewhere, MSU ended Town United’s three match winning run after holding the Beitbridge side to a 1-1 draw while Gaths Mine edged FC Platinum Under-19s 2 -1 to complete the weekend fixtures.
