Central Region League resumes

FOCUS will be on the championship chasing pair of Sheasham and TelOne when Central Region Soccer League (CRSL) matches resume after a two-week break that Zifa Central Region imposed in a desperate effort to collect outstanding affiliation fees.

With six rounds of matches left before the season ends, CRSL bosses suspended games at the end of matchday 20 to force clubs to pay.

In a statement on Monday, the CRSL announced that fixtures will resume on Saturday.

Sheasham is the only unbeaten team in the league, top the table with 46 points, five ahead of second-placed TelOne.

The league leaders will host second from the bottom Bishopstone, who stunned FC Platinum Under-19 2-1 in their last game.

Sheasham went to the break after playing to a 0-0 draw against former Premiership side Chapungu, while TelOne, who will be away in Filabusi United, also played to a goalless draw with MSU.

With the championship race heading for the homestretch, the top two sides are aware that any slip up could see their chances of promotion diminishing.

Sheasham are banking on the experience of former national Under-20 midfielder Pride Ziwengwa, ex-Bantu Rovers defender David Mangezi, utility player Tatenda Mapiye and former Chicken Inn winger Physwell Madhazi to win them promotion to the Premiership.

TelOne also have experienced players in the form of ex-FC Platinum’s Frank Bushiri, former Highlanders’ forward Tafadzwa Sibanda and experienced goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube.
