The Zifa Central Region Soccer League (ZCRSL) has entered into a partnership with Green Wildlife Safaris, a tourism company, to introduce four individual monthly awards. The top goalscorer, player of the month, goalkeeper of the month, and coach of the month will each receive US$120 prize money.
ZCRSL vice-chairman Professor Thomas Marambanyika stated that the sponsorship of individual awards is a testament to the league’s quality and professionalism. “This is a massive endorsement for the league; it demonstrates how professionally we have conducted ourselves and highlights the competitiveness of our league over the years,” Marambanyika said.
“We are thrilled about this development, where top performers are rewarded for their hard work. It motivates players and teams to improve their game.”
The deal will run for the remainder of this season, subject to renewal for next season. Chapungu striker Edward Watson was named the inaugural player of the month for September and received his award on Sunday following Chapungu’s 4-0 victory over Bishopstone at Ascot Stadium.
Midlands State University (MSU) striker Ishmael Makweza won the top goalscorer award for his four goals last month. Sheasham goalkeeper Elton Sibanda and Kwekwe United’s Elton Nechiware shared the goalkeeper of the month award. Lizwe Sweswe was named coach of the month after Sheasham’s impressive September run.
In league action, the top three maintained their positions. Leaders Kwekwe United edged Dinson Mvuma 1-0 at Mvuma Primary School, courtesy of Elton Njini’s late goal. Tongogara beat Gokwe North FC 2-1 at Nembudziya Government School, while Chapungu defeated Bishopstone 4-0 at Ascot Stadium.
Kwekwe United remain top with 59 points, three ahead of second-placed Tongogara, and Chapungu in third with 50.
