WITH two matches to go before the mid-season break, the teams gunning for promotion face tricky encounters during this weekend in the Central Soccer League. The pick of the fixtures is the clash at Dulibadzimu pitting resurgent Town United who welcome second placed Chrome Stars.
The match will serve as an acid test to United’s new coach John Phiri who has collected six points in the last two fixtures but the other win was on a technicality after Kwekwe Pirates made a no show a fortnight ago and the Beitbridge side was awarded the match on a 3-0 scoreline.
A win tomorrow for Phiri’s men will see his side join the chasing pack for the championship while for Chrome Stars it will scuttle their championship bid as they will lose ground to run away leaders Chapungu who have a five-point cushion at the top of the log standings with 33 points.
However, Stars are no pushovers having won their last two assignments since their 0-0 draw to Chapungu. They would want to continue the purple patch and spoil “Maninja” as Town United is affectionately known in the border town.
Log leaders Chapungu entertain unpredictable Gaths Mine at Ascot Stadium in another tricky affair which can go either way.
After a two-match lean spell in which Chapungu failed to find the target in consecutive draws the airmen bounced back in spectacular fashion by sending Silo United to the cleaners in a 4-0 drubbing and would want to maintain the momentum.
On the other hand Gaths Mine would also want to bounce back from a string of poor results with the last one being a 0-1 home loss to Vumbachikwe which has seen their championship campaign going off the rails.
