INYATHI High School of Bubi District are the 2013 hosts of the National Association of Secondary School Heads Under-17 Volleyball Championships this weekend. The games begin this morning and the headmaster of the host school, Nkululeko Zidla where stars like Edson Gift Sibanda, Rebecca Dube and Sheila Karungaire came from believes his school will put up a good show. He is aware of the challenge lying ahead as they chase a gold medal for being good hosts and the other on the courts.
David Livingstone, St James and Inyathi High Schools are the teams representing the host province.
Inyathi has constructed multi-purpose and all-weather courts in preparation for the games. The facilities can be used for volleyball, netball, tennis and basketball.
Zidla, yesterday said that they applied what they saw and learnt in other host provinces.
“We have prepared the grounds well enough to match the national standards and the pupils are ready to compete in the Nash finals,” said Zidla.
Perpetua Masarira the Nash volleyball head-in-charge commended Inyathi for the good preparations.
“Inyathi have gone out of their way to construct multi-purpose courts and we appreciate what Matabeleland North has done in terms of infrastructure development,” said Masarira.
“I’m happy that even rural schools are taking part at this stage. They have even knocked out renowned schools such as Churchill, who were eliminated by Seke High School from Chitungwiza,” Masarira said.
Chivi and Visitation High Schools dominated last year’s championships.
