THE Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) ratified its constitution six years after its formation during its mid-season review indaba held in Shurugwi at the weekend. CSL has been operating under a draft constitution since its formation in 2010. Stanley Chapeta, CSL chairman, said they would now forward their constitution to the country’s football governing body Zifa for endorsement.
“We’re pleased to finally announce that the region’s constitution was ratified by the assembly during our mid-season review meeting. The constitution now awaits final approval by Zifa before it becomes operational,” said Chapeta.
Apart from ratifying the constitution, the region’s audited accounts were also adopted. The issue of poor officiating and lack of sponsorship took centre stage, with the majority of clubs demanding answers. During his election campaign, Chapeta promised that he would secure sponsorship for the 2016 CSL campaign.
Chapeta, who had promised that sponsorship would be unveiled during the mid-season indaba, said the sponsor had sent an apology. “The issue of sponsorship is still on. The sponsor had said he would come for the mid-season indaba, but he sent an apology on Friday. However, they advised me that they would be in the country this week and we will take up the issue and come up with a substantive date,” Chapeta said.
“On the issue of poor officiating, which all the clubs complained about, it was agreed that we take up the matter with the referees’ body. We are, however, hopeful that we will witness better officiating in the second half of the season,” he said.
