Cephas Mashakada seriously ill

Hospital after his sugar level shot up.

The 51-year-old musician’s sugar level shot up in the last few days after doctors discovered that he had developed a chest infection.
“His sugar levels are rising and dropping drastically due to a chest infection,” a doctor at the hospital, who could not be named for professional reasons, said.
Mashakada was diagnosed of diabetes some few years back, which resulted in his left leg being amputated.

He, however, has been in and out of hospital for routine check ups.
His wife, Eunice, has been sleeping at the hospital for the last two weeks.
“Cephas, is not well. I have been sleeping here since he was admitted. My only hope is that he recovers soon,” she said.

Her relatives including Mashakada’s mother Fredresi accompanied her at the hospital.
“The doctors and nurses here have been supportive and every time they are ready to assist.
“I am grateful of the support from the Minister (Cde Webster Shamu), the musicians and the staff here,” she said.

Media, Information and Publicity Minister Shamu, who is also the patron of the Zimbabwe Union of Musicians, called on other musicians and Mashakada’s recording company to assist.
“We have informed ZUM of the illness and that there is need to assist him (Mashakada) during his time of need and we also alerted the hospital so that if there is need for any special treatment and attention to be given to Mashakada they should be able to provide.

“We are hopeful that he will pull through it all and we need those prayers,” Minister Shamu said.
The “Samson” hitmaker collapsed at his home in Chitungwiza two weeks ago and was rushed to Chitungwiza Central Hospital.
