ALL is in place for the second edition of the CG Msipa Charity Soccer Tournament to be held this weekend in Gweru and Zvishavane. Four teams, Highlanders, Chapungu, FC Platinum and Shabanie Mine will take part in the tourney whose semi-finals will be played tomorrow in Gweru and Zvishavane.Premiership returnees Chapungu will lock horns with Bulawayo giants, Highlanders in the first semi-final at Ascot Stadium in Gweru.
A Zvishavane derby is in the offing at Mandava Stadium on the same day as inaugural champions FC Platinum clash with cross town rivals Shabanie Mine.
The match between the two Zvishavane sides is a repeat of last year’s final when the platinum miners beat Shabanie Mine 2-0 to lift the inaugural charity challenge.
Winners of the two semi-final matches will meet in the finals set for Mandava Stadium on Sunday.
Former Midlands province Governor Cephas George Msipa, who is the founder of the CG Msipa Scholarship Trust, told Chronicle Sport that preparations for the staging of the tournament were progressing well.
He expressed optimism that the weather would be favourable for the successful staging of the tournament.
“Preparations are now at an advanced stage. I can safely say we are ready to stage the tournament. Remember we initially postponed the tournament because of the rains and the fact that our grounds were waterlogged.
“We hope this time around the weather will be favourable. Actually I’m quite confident that the weather will be fine,” he said.
Msipa said the entry charges for the games remain unchanged with the rest of the ground pegged at $3 while tickets for the VIP sections will cost $20.
Children will part with $1.
Msipa also revealed that Bulawayo football legends and their Gweru counterparts will clash in a curtain raiser to the Chapungu and Highlanders match.
The legends’ match kicks off at 12pm.
