Jambo’s new album “Nharo Hapana”, recorded at Diamond Studios and marketed by Corner Studios, borrows heavily from the original Zimbabwe Chachacha Kings especially the sweet rhythm and vocal flavour typical in “Vimbiso” and “Mudiwa Lucy” both penned by Mitchel.
The first track “Musengabere” warns today’s youths against rushing into short- lived marriages. In the song, Jambo encourages the engagement of aunts and other elders for guidance before lovers eventually tie the knot.
“Ndoda Kuyambuka” is the story of one who toils, but never earns any success. God is thus called to intervene.
Another one is “Lasty Shell”, the name of a newly born baby girl, sand howers praise on the Lord Almighty for blessing a family with a new life. Jambo insists that those craving for baby boys or girls should engage the Lord through prayer rather than resorting to n’angas and false prophets.
In the song “Masinya”, promiscuous men are warned not to spend their time trailing some married women yet they have their wives.
“Munondishora” talks about those despised because of their poverty. Jambo warns that tables can turn, as only the Lord has power over people’s lives while “Ngatipinde Dhondo” encourages hard work in all spheres of life as starvation does not discriminate.
Even doctors, he says, are also tackled in the same manner it does the poor and the disadvantaged.
The original Zimbabwe Chachacha Kings was formed in 1985 in Hurungwe and comprised of David Ziome (drums), Mitchel Jambo (lead vocals), Micron Jambo (Rhythym guitar), Peter Mwachande (lead guitar) and Hoza July (bass).
After the group became very popular with their album “Vimbiso” in 1989 they relocated to Mutare after clinching a lucrative contract with City Centre Hotel.
A few months later, the group collapsed after disputes between David Ziome, the band leader, and Mitchel Jambo. Because Mitchell was the composer and lead vocalist, radio stations and newspapers recognised him for most of the interviews, a thing that did not go down well with Ziome who was also the owner of the band.
Mitchel and Micron broke away before forming Marunga Brothers while Ziome and the other members relocated to Gweru where the group eventually went into oblivion.
Other members of the revived Zimbabwe Chachacha Kings are Nicholas Makoto (drums), Diverson Madhimba (backing vocals) and Micron’s two sons, Mike (lead guitar) and Diverson (bass).
Apart from lead vocals Jambo also plays the rhythm guitar.
