LIFE was not a bed of roses south of the Limpopo for talented former Buffaloes and Warriors defender, Liberty Chakoroma as he suddenly found himself struggling to stamp authority resulting in the termination of his contract. The youthful defender, whose talent was rather fast-tracked into the ABSA Premiership and recently misleadingly reported to be settling well in South Africa, has since reverted back home where he is eyeing a contact with Harare giants, Dynamos.
Chakoroma started in just two games during his time with Stars after having joined them at the beginning of the season from relegated army side, Buffaloes. With Ea Lla Koto not convinced with what they were getting out of the 21-year-old, they have decided to part ways with the Zimbabwe international, who is immediately returning home where he is expected to turn out for Dynamos this season.
Chakoroma has been undergoing pre-season training with the Harare club with whom he has agreed terms for a deal.
Chakoroma has been training with the Harare giants for close to a week now. His manager, James Hwetu, confirmed the latest development. “Yes, I can confirm that the youngster is training with DeMbare for close to a week now, but still in a process of getting a contract,” said Hwetu.
Chakoroma moved to Free State Stars in August last year, but struggled to live up to expectations at the Bethlehem outfit as he failed to impress the new Italian gaffer Giovanni Solinas.
He has been playing in the PSL reserve league. Dynamos assistant coach, Gift Umbro Muzadzi, said that they were still assessing Chakoroma. “We are still assessing him. He has been training with us. If he impresses we can as well sign him,” said Muzadzi.
Meanwhile, former Buffaloes midfielder, Barnabas Mushunje, has signed a seven-year contract with the moneybags, FC Platinum. Mushunje, whose contract with Buffaloes expired at the end of last season, said that he was happy to have found a new home.
“I am so happy to have found a home and I will do my level best here and help my team in any way I can. Many thanks to my former coach Saul Chaminuka. The man really helped me to get where I am today and he is one of the greatest coaches that I have worked with,” said an ecstatic Mushunje.
The 24-year-old star joined Buffaloes from D.C Academy in Harare and featured in almost every game for Buffaloes.He started his career at Kuwadzana Primary School.
He went on to join Dutch Soccer Academy before joining D.C Academy in 2013.
Mushunje has already set his targets for season.“My target is to play well so that I market myself and get an overseas deal. I also want to play for the national team this season. I know it is not easy at all, but with God everything is very possible,” he said.FC Platinum mentor, Norman Mapeza, confirmed that the youngster had put pen to paper and said that he was looking forward to the new soccer season.
“I can confirm that we have acquired the serves of Mushunje and hope that we will have a fruitful soccer season this year,” said Mapeza.
