Chaminuka fired

Border Strikers Board of Trustees have fired Saul Chaminuka from his post as head coach. Chaminuka joined the club on a three-year contract in February this year. Club secretary Rodlet Chigwinya said they have appointed Never Malunga as interim coach. “We have parted ways with Mr Chaminuka and appointed his assistant (Malunga) as the caretaker coach,” said Chigwinya.

“We had signed a three-year performance-based contract and have seen that we cannot continue with the relationship which is not producing results. “The coach had a tendency of disappearing after each game and only to show up on match days, sometimes late.”

On Saturday, Chaminuka arrived in Ngezi 40 minutes late for the match against Ngezi Platinum. “It is sad that out of 12 games we only managed to win one and we cannot fold our hands and watch while the team is crumbling.

“We are will be hunting for strikers so that we can start collecting points and avoid relegation,” said Chigwinya.

Chaminuka said yesterday he was relieved to leave.

“It is true that we have cut ties with the Border Strikers’ management.

“This is a relief, it was long overdue.

“There is no other way one can produce results in the absence of adequate resources.

“The players have great potential and they only need motivation and they need to be paid good salaries and on time,” he said.
