CENTRAL Soccer League side Whawha is mired in chaos after the club passed a vote of no confidence on its chairperson Musa Ntonga last week.
The vote of no confidence was instigated by the club’s supporters, who are not happy with Ntonga’s leadership, which they blamed for the club’s poor showing and subsequent relegation from the Premier Soccer League at the end of last season.
The supporters unanimously voted against Ntonga’s executive and replaced it with a seven-member interim executive led by one Mawere, with incumbent vice-chairperson Ruzvidzo Muchongwe being retained.
However, the vote of no confidence was reportedly overturned after Ntonga met with Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner-General Paradzai Zimondi.
“According to the draft constitution in possession of Zifa and the PSL, the club is supposed to hold an annual general meeting every year called by the chairperson. However, the chairperson didn’t do this prompting the supporters to convene a meeting where Ntonga and her executive were present, and a vote of no confidence was passed against her,” said a source.
Zimondi’s intervention has reportedly sent shivers down the spines of those implicated in pushing for Ntonga’s ouster.
“People are not sure what will happen to them. In the first place, the issue should have been dealt with by club president Senior Assistant Commissioner Celesina Mupfarinya and the club patron Deputy Commissioner-General Rhodes Moyo,” the source said.
Ntonga said the move was part of a ploy to frustrate her campaign for the CSL top job. She only received a one vote in elections for a new CSL chairman won by Stanley Chapeta.
“I wasn’t in office doing my campaign and I only heard about it when the issue was already resolved by management because it was unconstitutional and the prison management has the final say. I am sure it was a deliberate move to frustrate my candidature (for the CSL elections),” Ntonga said.
She and her deputy Muchongwe are said to have a bad working relationship.
