ACES Youth Soccer Academy (AYSA) founder and executive director Nigel Munyati says Allan Chapinduka’s recognition as the Rookie of the Year in the PSL is a tribute to the work they are doing.
The academy produced top players like Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat over the years.
In an interview with Zimpapers Sports Hub, Munyati said:
“In the 24 years since our establishment, AYSA have never taken a sabbatical. We have been working nonstop, producing talent that continues to enthrall the PSL and Division One.
“It is no surprise that a player like Allan Chapinduka, who graduated from the Academy early this year, is recognised as the most promising player in the PSL.
“Our mission is to help young Zimbabweans escape the poverty trap through football.
“With over 500 boys and girls having come through AYSA, and over 50 currently playing abroad, in the PSL, and Division One, we believe we are achieving our mission.”
Munyati said they also work hand in hand with other local academies.
“Academies generally enjoy collaborative relationships born out of mutual respect.
“We also mentor fledgling academies or those facing hardships, and each year we donate some of our old kits and equipment to these academies.
“But, academies are often handicapped by a herd mentality, leading to a hodgepodge of efforts.
“ZIFA has been missing as a regulator, but we are happy to see a move in the right direction with the prospect of a junior football development programme starting in 2025.”
He added:
“AYSA has a horde of stars ready for the big stadiums around the world.
“This showcase (tournament) will be a display of the best young talent that’s ready for professional football. We are offering PSL and D1clubs the opportunity to scout talent from a wider pool than they will get from holding their own trials.”
The under-20 football showcase will be held at Crown Sports Club tomorrow and on Sunday.
The two-day football showcase will feature BN Academy, Total Academy, Chawira Academy, MWOS FC, DC Academy, FN Academy, Prime Time, Jadel Football Academy, Golden Eagles, Real Betis, Sheasham FC and hosts AYSA.
