Chapungu 1-1 Hwange
CHAPUNGU have themselves to blame for wasting time unnecessarily when the referee added five minutes at his discretion which allowed Hwange to equalise forcing a share of the spoils in a Premiership match played at Ascot Stadium yesterday.
Chapungu had done well to safeguard a slender one nil lead which the hosts had gained through the side’s top marksman Callisto Maheya in the ninth minute before Evans Rusike levelled in stoppage time.
The draw confirmed Chapungu to be the league’s draw specialists. It was their fourth share of points this season.
Chapungu started the match the more dominant and justice appeared in order when Maheya scored through a diving header off a Maxwell Mavhuto cross.
After the goal there was little goal mouth action.
The second half started on a low note with the hosts content in defending their one goal advantage while Chipangano never showed any intent of attacking the visitors’ goal area.
Maheya could have scored his second goal in the 15th minute with his header crashing against the bar. He had gotten to the end of a Courage Muzire cross.
After that both sides went into a slumber but the match came to life in the last 10 minutes and the coalminers could have scored to make it 1-1 in the 82nd minute when Rusike gained possession in Chapungu’s goal area but his shot hit the woodwork.
Two minutes later Chapungu’s Rodwell Mhlanga saw his effort going wide.
“Waru Waru” were unlucky not to have doubled their lead when Mavhuto’s corner kick was misjudged by Hwange goalie Takabva Mawaya and fell on Maheya but his effort was cleared off the line.
With the hosts heading for victory, Ngonidzashe Murisa who was dilly-dallying with the ball was dispossessed by substitute Newman Siyanchali who fed Rusike.
The Chipangano lanky striker unleashed a scorcher from outside the box to force a share of the points.
