Volleyball national league play-offs date set

THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association is set to hold the national league play-offs on the last weekend of the month in Harare.
ZVA administrator Sibangane Mashasha said the games would be played on the weekend of May 31 and June 1.“Teams are yet to confirm their participation but the dates are set on the last weekend of the month which is next week,” said Mashasha.

The national league is made of eight teams each in the men and women’s categories.

Last season’s top four teams qualify automatically.

“Four teams will be promoted in each category during the play-offs to add to the four that have already qualified and we expect a high turnout this year,” he said.

Stanbic Thunder, Tigers, Support Unit and Black Rhinos are the men’s teams that have qualified for the national league while in the women’s category there is University of Zimbabwe, Support Unit, ZRP Harare and Harare Polytechnic.

Bulawayo’s Zesa, Raiders, Jessie Mine, Cresta, Tigers and Elephants are among men’s teams expected to travel for the national finals.
In the women’s category there is Bulawayo’s ZRP Raiders who are among the favourites.

Bulawayo Volleyball Association newcomers Zesa have promised fireworks at the tournament as they have a strong squad with players such as Keith Machakaire, Ayanda Bhebhe, Trevor Sibanda and Murphery Chindungo.
