Triangle 5-1 Buffaloes
SUGAR planters Triangle FC yesterday ran riot and walloped visiting Buffaloes 5-1 in a premiership match played at Gibbo Stadium.It was the perfect tonic they needed ahead of the mouthwatering clash against fellow financially stable FC Platinum on Saturday.
The home side came into the match under pressure to collect maximum points after a streak of poor results that have seen them collect just five points in their opening eight matches.
The Biggie Zuze coached side were the better side in the opening minutes of the match and they opened the floodgates in the fourth minute through striker Richard Kawondera who scored from close range.
Zuze who was having a tough time in the Lowveld because of the poor run, introduced new faces into his starting line up with the likes of former Hippo Valley player Hillary Bakacheza, Charles Makoto and striker Kawondera.
Ten minutes before half time striker Nhamo Lameck saw his shot missing the target inside the box with Buffaloes shotstopper Blessing Mwandimutsira a beaten man.
Triangle scored their second goal in the 56th minute through Tinei Chitora who benefited from Bakacheza’s cross.
Buffaloes defender Prosper Matizanadzo was red-carded by Tendai Kusosa for a second bookable offence after fouling Bakacheza in the 62nd minute just outside the box.
Kawondera scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 67th minute after receiving a through pass from Praise Tonha.
Buffaloes were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute after David Sengu fouled Jacob Muzokomba from behind and Kusosa pointed to the spot.
Muzokomba scored the consolation goal from the resultant spotkick beating Triangle goalkeeper Edmund Chimhini.
Blessing Maziwisa scored in the 87th minute from a rebound. Chitora completed his brace in the referee’s optional time. Triangle head coach Zuze said he was impressed by his team’s performance. He said the club had been playing well but failing to get good results.
“I think today we played well. We were just unfortunate in the previous matches because we would score and play good football but fail to win. We are however happy with the result,” said Zuze.
Buffaloes head coach Luke Masomere blamed the poor travel arrangements for his team’s poor performance.
“We played very bad football today. We travelled from Mutare today only to arrive minutes before kick off and surely the boys couldn’t deliver,” said Masomere.
