Chapungu itch for double over Border Strikers

AIRMEN Chapungu will be hoping to complete a double over Border Strikers when the two sides clash this afternoon at Ascot Stadium in a Castle Lager Premiership encounter.

“Waru Waru” edged the border town outfit 2–1 in the reverse fixture at Dulivhadzimu and would want to return to winning ways after failing to pick up maximum points in the last two matches.

Chapungu blew up their three match winning streak at home a fortnight ago when they lost to ZPC Kariba 0-1 before drawing 1–1 away to How Mine last weekend.

Coach John Nyikadzino said they are geared for the match and expressed confidence of grabbing the three points at stake this afternoon.

He said: “It is going to be a tough match because this is the second half of the season and if you look at the table, Border Strikers badly need the points to survive relegation and we are equally in a precarious position.

“However, we are prepared for the match. We have no injury worries in camp and there is nothing which can stop us from collecting maximum points.

Our strategy going forward is to win all our home games and at least get a point away and I am confident that at the end of the season we will be in the top eight,” added Nyikadzino.

The airmen will be looking to Allen Tavarwisa who has four goals to his name and Xolani Ncube for inspiration who has been their outstanding player so far this season.

However, Border Strikers would not be pushovers and judging by their current form they will be out to spoil the party for the hosts.

Vavheneki mentor Never Malunga still believes there is still all to play for and are confident of performing a Houdini act to survive relegation.

“There is still all to play for and we are not coming here for a holiday and we are playing for maximum points,” he said.In their last encounter the border town outfit shocked Ngezi Platinum 2 – 0 at Dulivhadzimu.

Strikers have also claimed the scalp of Dynamos.
