Charamba takes control

TONGO CHARAMBA took control on the opening round of the Tour Players’ Championship at Wingate Park and Golf Club yesterday.
Charamba, of Chapman, is the defending champion after beating Ignatius Mketekete in last year’s play-off at Country Club.
He carded an impressive five-under-par 67 to take control of the 47-member field going into this mornings’ second and final round.
Charamba is in good form after he made the cut at the Barclays Kenya Open last week.

“I am happy but all will be decided tomorrow and the result (yesterday) represents the amount of work I put in during the preparations.
“Overall, I played well and I owe this to hard work, a few lapses in concentration at the tee box almost cost me but I am happy that I have mastered it well,” said Charamba.

Charamba said he will not be under any pressure today.
Zambian Madalitso Muthiya is in second place after a four-under-par 68.

Muthiya, a former Canadian Tour player, has vast experience.
Mketekete was in third place on 69.
