adminThe Annual National Institute of Allied Arts Music Eisteddfod is back again and students can brace themselves for the fun filled three-week extravaganza.
Over 2 000 entries have come through from various schools where Harare’s Prince Edward, Twin Rivers andHarare International School will host the fiesta. Zimbabwe music academy in Bulawayo and Midlands Christian College in Gweru will also host four other musical events as the musical festival unrolls.
African music has a firm representation in the festival with over 500 entries of students participating in mbira, marimba and vocals.
This section of African music commences on March 17 at Prince Edward School. As is the norm, the marimba challenge will see all marimba ensembles that would have been awarded honours grade playing again for the Kutinya Tophy for senior schools while the juniors will be given a the Nic Manomano trophy. The Western music section also has over 800 instrumental entries while the vocal section has 622 entries. The highlight on the section will be the Vocal Challenge on March 26 where vocal soloist who would have received honours grade will compete for the highly prized awards, the Peter Bosley, Monica Trollope and Harry Tudball Memorial Trophies at Prince Edward School again. Some of the Western instrumental classes will be adjudicated in Bulawayo for the first time in many years.
The vocalists will be at performing at the Prince Edward Chapel while the choirs will be at Harare International School from March 18 to 21. Twin Rivers School will have performances on March 26 and 27.
The festival ends on March 28 but the closing concert will see the best presented items being highlighted on the 29th at Harare international school.
In total, 60 trophies will be awarded to winning candidates while all participants will receive certificates .- CL Reporter.
