at the ceremonial home of gospel music
Of the three groups performing, Jah Prayzah is perhaps the odd one out since he is not a gospel artiste. However, that does not take away the spark, if anything it actually spices the act.
Currently riding high with his album “Tsviriyo”, whose first copy was sold for a whopping US$12 000 to flamboyant businessman Philip Chiyangwa.
The album straddles several genres which have become part of Jah Prayzah’s repertoire.
Interestingly, the gig will introduce Jah Prayzah’s to Pastor Charamba’s fans and vise versa.
Another exciting angle is that Mhere, famed for the hit song “Favour”, will be out to show the audiences that he is capable of holding his own.
Of late Mhere has been hogging the limelight for the wrong reasons. His second album, “Anoita Minana”, has generated a lot of debate with regard to two singles “Favour” and “Chipositora”.
There were a number of musicians who have laid claim to “Favour” while “Chipositora” was deemed “heretic” in some Christian quarters.
One thing you cannot take away from the youngster is that he is poised for dizzy heights and already signs are showing that he has potential as an artiste.
Last but not least, Pastor Charamba, who is one of Zimbabwe’s renowned gospel artistes, commands a huge following.
His last album “Pashoko Pangoma” is one his best and is rich in emphatic beat and inspiring lyrics, from which the hit song “Nyika Zimbabwe” is taken The song, which can best be described as an intercession prayer, has found favour with both Christians and secular fans, because of its bold message on the need for God to bless Zimbabwe.
“Regera Kundisiya”, “Ndakaurayisa Jesu” and “Jehovha Ndiye” are some of the inspiring and danceable songs taken from the same album.
Pastor Charamba has won many awards in recognition of his sterling performance in the arts sector in Zimbabwe. His popularity started growing with his chart-busting albums like “Exodus” and “Sunday Service” from which came hits like “Mhinduro Iripo” and “Musoro”.
He has also worked on a number of musical projects with his wife, Olivia, who is also a pastor, composer and musician in her own right.
Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions, who are organising the gig, said they were happy to bring some of Zimbabwe’s most talented voices on one stage. Chimbodza aka Chipaz urged music lovers to come in their numbers.
