Charity gala slated for Mbare

Grounds. This would be Macheso’s first undertaking since he was appointed Zimbabwe Red Cross humanitarian ambassador and indications are that the “Charakupa” singer has the support of other musicians who have joined the fund-raising gig.
Other heavy hitters on the bill include Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, Tryson Chimbetu, King Shaddy, the Dembo brothers and little-known gospel musician Liberty Ticharwa.

Zimbabwe Red Cross Society president Edison Mlambo said the concert was a request from Macheso as a way of assisting the needy.
“The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Red Cross Day. This day is celebrated across the globe on May 8 each year. The date marks the anniversary of the birth of Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross.

“The occasion offers an opportunity for the members of the International Red Cross and Red Cross Crescent Movement to pay tribute to the tremendous, life-saving work that is carried out by its dedicated staff and volunteers worldwide each day.

“To start this campaign, our humanitarian ambassador Macheso offered to host a charity concert at the Mbare Netball Complex and has since engaged fellow musicians,” he said.

The concert will be held under a sub-theme, “Your dollar, my dollar can serve the world” and is expected to draw hundreds of people from all walks of life.

Takemore Mazuruse, the society’s public relations manager, said all the performing artistes had volunteered as a way of giving back to the people.
“I want people to understand that this concert is meant to help the vulnerable groups countrywide so all the artistes who chipped in volunteered their services. As Red Cross we thank them a million times,” said Mazuruse.

Gospel sensation Fungisai also took her time to share with Macheso her ambassadorial role with the national blood service and vowed to work with him in future events.

“Ambassador Macheso I want you to know that ‘kandiro kanoenda kunobva kamwe’ (one good turn deserves another) I am also National Blood Service ambassador so we share a common cause of serving the needy,” Fungisai said.
The concert also sees the coming on board of various corporate organisations such as New Life Night

Club, Revival, Zimcafe Hotel, Pro Air and CellOne Electronics that worked with the Zimbabwe Red Cross before.
Meanwhile, quite a number of other events will be taking place in and around Harare despite the cold spell the country has been experiencing in the last few days.

The Sunshine City and Zim Reggae artistes and bands will hold the Bob Marley 32nd commemorations where “true” believers of the Rastafarian culture will join the whole world in celebrating the life of the iconic late Jamaican reggae music legend. The commemorations will be held in the Harare Gardens tomorrow.

The 32nd Bob Marley celebrations will see as number of local reggae artistes and DJs doing what they know best for Zimbabwean Rastafarians.
Among them will be Transit Crew, Trevor Hall, Mannex and Mo Familee, King Kodza, Sista Kessia, I-Wata, Judgment Yard Templeman and the Legendary Sound.

A lot of exciting and entertaining gigs are taking place throughout the city as well.
For example, at City Sports Bar Tryson will today give his fans a rare lunchtime gig courtesy of Holly’s Hotel as he samples his latest album, “Compass”, which features crowd favourites such as “Bhora Mberi”, “Pahotera” and “Ndondo”.
Just back from UK is “Tsviriyo” hitmaker Jah Prayzah who reconnects with his local fans at New Life Night Club in Budiriro tonight.
