BEAUTICIAN and actress, Joey Nyikadzino, said Zimbabweans need to realise that charity does indeed begin at home.
She said there is something troubling about spending a huge amount of money with someone trapped in poverty.
The actress said rather than spending a huge amount of money with someone in need, it is wise to help that person.
“It is financial manipulation to spend huge sums of money in one day with someone who is enduring extreme poverty for 365 days without your help.
“How can you pay for a hotel to drink expensive wine with a friend who has nothing, where is the empathy.
“That is an altruistic mind-set you have; yes we are enjoying, but what happens next,” she said.
The talented actress said people should reflect on what they deliberated on with peers during the festive season.
“Is anything materialising from the discussions you had in the festive season with your loved ones?
“You had a solidarity show and is the solidarity transforming your life? We know it’s common that others were promised jobs and lucrative deals by loved ones who are doing better.
“We don’t want a situation whereby rich people spend money with their families only. Empowerment should start at household level; let’s normalise giving a helping hand.
“Are you a blessing to your family or you are a stumbling block? If you don’t want to help others, at least don’t stand in their way,” she said.
