JAZZ musician Charles Mahlaba Banda has started to put final touches on his second solo studio project titled Imizwa which is due for release sometime in August.
Imizwa has 10 tracks namely Safa featuring Gaz’elimnyama, Ubambo Lwami, Lifa Lami featuring Helen Nyati, Ngiyasola featuring Vikmoe, Ingane yabantu, Baba Laph’okhona, Ngikhethe wena featuring Ntando, Qeqe and Mwezi, Uthando Lukamama featuring Vikmoe, Umvundla loNteletsha featuring Fafaza and an acoustic track named Lifa Lami.
The project is laced with work from a full band and these are Erastus Nleya (acoustic and drums), Thami Khumalo (acoustic), Trust Samende (lead guitarist), David Mabhena (bass guitar), Samuel Mabhena and Reneiloe Mrimirwa (keyboard), Vuyile Qongo, Vuyelwa Khumalo and Ntandoyenkosi Sithole (backing vocalists).
Banda said the album expresses different feelings that people face on a daily basis in the society.
“The album talks about a number of issues we face in life be it love and hatred from the families, our partners/friends and xenophobia among other issues. Each song is telling a story of different feelings that we have seen or felt.
“The word feelings is broad and covers different things. Feeling is an emotion such as anger or happiness. All the songs are accompanied by different types of feelings happiness, sadness, fear, and anger, which are differentially associated with three core affects: reward (happiness), punishment (sadness), and stress (fear and anger),” said Banda.
Commenting on some of the tracks Banda said:
“Safa is a song about the unruly catastrophic circumstances faced within the black societies. Beseech justice and uniting the black society.
“Ubambo Lwami is a melodious sound rooted in tender emotions of affection while Lifa Lami conveys functional impressions of how humans can be gluttonous even though aid is provided they never cease to take advantage,” said Banda.
