AFRO/Rnb/Dance/house artiste Leslie Luwizhi Kampila is hoping he will this year bag a Zimbabwe Music Award (Zima).

The artiste has been nominated in the Best Dance (House, Gqom, Kwaito/EDM) category  twice in a row after he was also nominated last year.

This time around, Leslie Kampila is going against fellow creatives La Dee, Master Zhoe and King 98 while last year he had stiff competition from Shasha, Zandimaz, Anita Jaxson and Mawiza.

Speaking to Chronicle Showbiz, Leslie Kampila said he has his fingers crossed to clinching the golden prize.

“I feel like this year is my year. I just have that feeling especially looking at the fact that I was nominated at the Zima last year where the competition was stiff l stand a good chance this year. Winning will be a major milestone.

“I hope to bring it home this year. The recognition means a lot but winning is life changing and cements your legacy as a Zimbabwean artiste,” said Leslie Kampila.

He said he has a lot of music in the pipeline due for release soon.

“I have a lot of work waiting to be dropped and the one that l’m going to be releasing soon is a collaboration with Trevor Dongo.

“I strongly believe this song is my best work so far. We put in so much time and work into this production. The producer Lance Hebron got to really showcase his incredible abilities on this one and it was not a rushed project,” he said.

Leslie Kampila said his music continues to be hugely inspired by the late great Fortune Mparutsa and will write a song that would be a dedication to him.

“As for Trevor Dongo what a talent and gift this icon is. He absolutely nailed the song. This is one person I have always wanted to work with. l had been trying to reach out to him for some time and finally it happened.

“I think this is the one that will bridge my music career to the next level. We will start working on the visuals soon since the song is already complete and schedule a release day for it,” said Leslie Kampila.
