Jamaican dancehall star Desmond Mendez, who is popularly known as Charly Black, is now in the country ahead of Heroes Sunsplash gig to be held at Long Cheng Plaza tomorrow.
The stage has been set for what is promising to be a sensational show that will also be supported by the cream of Zimbabwe’s dancehall music.
Controversial Soul Jah Love and his former nemesis Killer T will join forces with Seh Calaz and Kinnah among other acts to represent the local front.
The Zimdancehall chanters have the mammoth task of rising to the occasion while sharing the stage with the international star to avoid a repeat of the Pacific Sunsplash show that saw local acts being whitewashed earlier this year.
Long-serving Zimdancehall artiste, Winky D is usually the biggest gun at such shows, with his act being saved for last, but he is nowhere near the gig this time around.
The hope is in the youthful singers who will showcase local talent and hopefully learn a thing or two from the established Charly Black.
Fans are rallying behind the locals as they have successfully overshadowed music heavy weights in the country.
Charly Black himself rose through the ranks from being a music selector with a sound system in “Warlord”.
He later joined Bass Odyssey Entertainment in 2005 where he established himself as an MC of note.
His hit single “Nuff Nuff Luv” from 2007 on the Nuff Luv riddim was a turning point in his career.
He also has “Rich This Year”, “Money Dreama”, and “Lighter” under his belt.
The singer/ producer has also performed in New Jersey, New York, Texas, Florida, Boston, St Lucia, St Vincent and has shared the stage with Mavado, Bounty Killer, Junior Reid, Vybz Kartel, Tarrus Riley, Turbulance, Assasin, Jose Wales, Munga, Mikeylous and Dadda.
According to his official biography he started singing at the age of five, winning countless singing competitions thus proving that he will be a great talent in years to come.
Before he started singing professionally his first job in the music business was a selector.
Starting out on a sound system in Montego Bay, Jamaica, call “Warlord Int’l” Charly Black then moved on to joined Bass Odyssey Entertainment in 2005 and has proven to be one of the best MC/selector in the world.
Bass Odyssey was instrumental in the development and grooming of him, he is still one of their MC/selector to date.
He has matured into one of the best entertainers Jamaica has ever produced, commanding a level of respect and credibility that will make him a strong force to reckon with on the international stage.
Charly Black stamped an indelible mark on the dancehall scene since his hit single “Nuff Nuff Luv”, which was released in 2007 on the Nuff Luv Riddim produced by Mark Bartley of Bass Odyssey Entertainment.
Charly’s first single “Woman It’s You” was recorded in 2004, but his determination kept him in the studios creating irresistible melodic lyrics.
He then followed this up in 2005 with “Going To The Party”, “Back Shot Time”, “Bubble” and “Girl I Love You” in 2008.
In 2009 he has recorded “Rich This Year”, which was a major local and international hit and “Money Dreama”, which got heavy airplay.
