AN emergency committee, made up of three board of governors, will run the Premier Soccer League until the next chairman is elected.

Former chairman, Farai Jere, resigned from the post in December, after he entered the race for the Zifa presidency.
Kennedy Ndebele, who served as the league’s chief executive officer, also quit his post and is now one of the Zifa vice presidents.

Dates for the Premier Soccer League elections are yet to be advised.
The emergence committee which is made up of Moses Maunganidze (Dynamos), Isaiah Mpfurutsa (Simba Bhora) and Masimba Chihohwa (Manica Diamonds) has been steering the league since the New Year, while Rodwell Thabe has been the acting chief executive officer.

One of the three emergency committee members will chair the Premier Soccer League’s Annual General Meeting in Harare today.

Apart from formally admitting the newly promoted sides into the topflight league, the AGM will also spell out a strategy to keep the PSL vibrant and enable the top flight league to generate more revenue and remain attractive to fans.

“There will be discussions on how the board can continue to improve and drive the direction of the league to ensure its growth in generating significant revenue for its members.

“At the same time, football being a unifying game, the PSL intends to play its part in creating a better livelihood for our members and also providing business opportunities for our stakeholders,” said Thabe.

Eighteen board of governors from the Premier Soccer League clubs, including the newly promoted sides, will attend the AGM.
Champions Simba Bhora, FC Platinum, Ngezi Platinum Stars, Manica Diamonds, Highlanders, Herentals, Dynamos, CAPS United, Chicken Inn, Greenfuel, TelOne, Yadah and ZPC Kariba are the surviving teams from the 2024 season.

They have been joined by Scottland who were promoted from Northern Region, Kwekwe United from the Central Region and Triangle United from the Eastern Region.

MWOS came second in the Northern Region but entered into a partnership with ZPC Hwange who won the Southern Region Division One championship.

“The main agenda of the AGM will include an address by the acting chairman who will be a member delegated from the emergency committee which is steering the operations of the league.

“The AGM will also look at the approval of minutes of the preceding congress and any other minutes of any Extraordinary General Meeting held last year,” said Thabe.
Today’s AGM will also seek to rubber stamp and approve the budget which was presented at the EGM in December 2024.

Said Thabe: “There will also be a presentation of the chairman’s activity report which contains the activities that have been undertaken by the league since the last congress in 2024.

“It will also seek to approve the presentation of the consolidated and revised balance sheets and profit and loss statements as well as the budget that was presented at our EGM on December 19, 2024.”

The PSL indaba seeks to ensure that the top flight league remains in sync with its strategic plan.

“The strategic plan is underpinned by the pillars of governance enhancement, marketing, research and entrepreneurship and stakeholder engagement.”

The 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season kicked off last weekend and enters Match Day Two this afternoon when Yadah host Chicken Inn at Heart Stadium in Waterfalls, Harare.
