Cheating & abusive hubby dragged to court

IT’S often observed that when a married man begins to cheat, his behaviour at home changes, frequently becoming abusive.

This scenario played out in the home of Tinashe Mazhambe and Susan Sibanda. Sibanda stated that her marital life with Mazhambe took a turn when he started drinking heavily and sleeping away from home.

He would return the following day, claiming his work vehicle had broken down, forcing him to sleep at work.

She became suspicious after allegedly finding used condoms while washing her husband’s clothes. What further strained their marriage was the discovery that the woman with whom her husband was cheating had become pregnant.

“I am married to Tinashe. Problems in our marriage began when he would fail to come home and lie that he was at work. Sometime last December, he failed to come home for two consecutive days. I went to his workplace to look for him but was told he had not reported for work for two days. When he came home that evening, he shouted at me and slapped me, blaming me for going to his workplace.

“After that, the situation at home worsened. He would come home late, and when I asked where he had been, he would beat me up. Last Tuesday, a woman with whom he had been having a secret affair came to our home with her aunt to inform him that she was pregnant. He did not deny it,” Sibanda told the court.

Mazhambe did not attend the court session.

The presiding magistrate, Challenge Mahembe, granted Sibanda a protection order against her husband.

He was ordered not to physically or verbally abuse his wife. The order is valid for five years.
